Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro has established what he described as the’most important’ drills ever, preparing to repel some potential invasion after the US and its allies backed self-proclaimed’interim president’ Guaido.

The exercises will probably continue until February 15 and are set to become the largest military exercises the nation has held in its 200-year history, President Maduro reiterated, as he came at Guaicaipuro Fort in Miranda State.

“We must prepare to guard [Venezuela’s] sovereignty, territorial integrity, liberty,” the chosen head of state , apparently stressing that Washington’s calls for a regime change and its own competitive backing of opposition parliament speaker Juan Guaido could escalate into a direct military invasion.

Guaido, who proclaimed himself’interim president’ of Venezuela in January and obtained the immediate boon of the United States and its allies in Europe and throughout Latin America, didn’t rule out he may need to make a “controversial” conclusion to authorize that a “humanitarian” intervention. The Trump government also said all options remain on the table to rid Venezuelans of the “oppressive dictator” Maduro.
